Since the introduction of the zebra styled E-Z-GO ST Express's to the western plains Taronga Zoo in Dubbo, hire rates have been on the rise.
The vehicles, courtesy of Augusta Golf Cars, have become an iconic part of the Zoo and have become an attraction on their own.
The six seater vehicles, which include features such as seatbelts, rear fenders flares and a child restraint fitting kit, are used by visitors to survey the three square kilometre bushland.
Spokesperson for the Zoo, Mandy Quayle, said that the vehicles are a fun and unique way to experience the Zoo as they allow visitors to have the feeling of a safari like experience in Dubbo.
Quayle said "Since the introduction of the new carts hire rates have increased, so they have definitely attracted more business in terms of hire rates.
"The zebra striped carts definitely reflects the theme of the Zoo but was also designed to create a fun aspect that would have people turning their heads when they saw one.
"They are very eye catching which I think is a draw card when it comes to hiring one, as the children are always especially excited by experiencing the Zoo in an electric cart."
The vehicles costs $69 for three hours of hire and have fast become the most popular alternative to walking and bicycle hire.
These versatile vehicles are not only used for visitor hire; they have also been used for VIP visits and transporting people to and from the car park during the Zoo Grooves event, which takes place in October.
Taronga Western Plains Zoo boasts a fleet of 16 of these zippy zebra stripped ST express's.
"The aim is to increase the fleet in the future as they are very popular, especially during school holiday periods" Quayle said.
